The term bespoke will not mean anything to a lot of people outside of the UK, but for those living else where it means custom made. This is a very common thing in other parts of the world, but in the US there is not a lot of places that will take part in this traditional form of furniture making.Bespoke Furniture

In the early days of the world there was nothing more then the custom made furniture shops that looked to make a name for themselves by producing some of the best in furniture from real wood. Of course this started to fade as the prices of things rose. The new methods, such as mass production, took over and drove most of the custom made furniture shops out of business. They simply could not compete with the massive amount of furniture that was being produced.

Even though the mass produced furniture was no where near the high quality of those that were made one at a time, the price difference brought about a massive amount of people who were looking to save money. This is not to say that the mass produced stuff was not nice, it is still sought after from the early days when real woods were used, but in the old days it was still not the same quality that was coming out of the bespoke shops. The dove tails for instance were cut with a power saw, powered by a foot pumped engine. This was completely out of the ordinary as the original dove tails were cut by hand with some of them being different sizes from human error.Bespoke Furniture

The lasting appeal of bespoke furniture has now made a come back. There are shops all over the country that are blending the old and new ways to create custom made furniture to the order of the customer. Of course there is very little that people will not love about this new style. Each piece is hand made to order. So if you are looking for a piece of furniture, lets say a dresser, that will match a bed that you purchased some years ago, you would take a photograph of the bed to the shop.

Using the tools and knowledge that they have attained over the years they will create a dresser that is matching in style and such to the piece that you already have. Now the only true downfall is the cost of such a process. You can expect to pay as much as three too four times the amount of mass produced furniture when looking at a bespoke piece.
